I Wanna Ride in the Backseat

As usual I logged on the computer today and MSN to catch up on some quick news and interesting little tidbits. It probably isn't all that suprising to find out that yet again the homepage's scrolling articles is where I go my idea for this blog. Unlike the last few and their advice or random comments pertaining to life this particular blog is more or less an observation about some pretty good cars some seriously cool perks. MSN autos published an article called Baby Got Back Seats! This rather enjoyable piece to read looked at the top back seats of cars - something that is rarely done. I mean think about it, all the time you see people talking about how great a cars performance it or what a killer sound system it has or even the rather impressive front seat heating and cooling system for your tush, but you never hear about the perks for the backseat passengers, well now is the time.
The first car on the list is Mayback 62, at almost $400,000 dollars it is described as a "luxury land yacht." Compete with Grand Nappa Leather, auto adjusting seat belts, a compressor driven refrigerator, heated/cooled seats, champagne flutes, and a Bose surround sound system the people in the back are riding in the lap of luxury. The seats in the spacious cab also recline backwards and have extend able footrests. The final perk is the fancy electro-dimming glass that works as a sunroof.
Lexus offers a comparable model for those who are looking to spend a little less but still don't mind dishing out some serious dough. The Lexus LS 460 L offers and Executive-Class Seating package for an additional $13, 200. It too offers the reclining seats with footrest, a lumbar massage system, grade A leather, a cooler for drinks, and custom wood trim. For another $2,080 you can upgrade you from the "standard 10-speaker stereo to a 19-speaker 450-watt, Mark Levinson surround-sound system. "
If you are looking to haul more than just a couple of extra bodies the Ford Flex is the best option for optimal backseat space. This minivan-SUV hybrid is a little boxy to look at from the outside but the inside is rather impressive in that it can comfortably seat 6 adults and a mini-fridge or 7 adults if you are not that thirsty. It even comes with the optional Multi-panel Vista Roof so that everyone has a great view.
If you don't mind driving something that says "Soccer Mom" then Chrysler Town and Country is another good option. Starting about $26, 000 this is a great option for hauling the kids around. The second row of seats can be folded into the traditional stow and go or can swivel around so that the two rear seats face one another. It also comes complete with a removable table for some family fun time during those long trips. This minivan is perfect for young and old with it's special booster seat and its optional rear entertainment dual-screen system for watch movies or even SIRUS TV.
Surprisingly enough there is the Ferrari California on the list, it is included because of the option for the custom designed baby seat to make your kid the coolest in town. The $192,000 sports car can impressively go from 0 to 60mph in less than 4 seconds and has a retractable hard-top for some great cruising from any seat.
Traditionally the Porsche is known for its lack of back seat, most models completely lack one but the new Panorama will can comfortably seat 4 adults with plenty of leg and head room. While the adjustments make the car a little less pretty to look at it makes riding in it a lot more pleasant if you are planning on more than two people. Not surprising though is the price tag which starts at about $75,000 0- but who minds paying for the luxury right.

Of course if you look enough you will find some other car and truck options with some pretty impressive back seats but to me these little babies take the cake. This article may have appealed to me because I drive a mustang which most of you may know contains virtually no real back seat. So while I love to drive it and only spend time in the back if I'm cleaning it, it isn't always the most practical or impressive back seat in the car business. Does this mean that I would trade my beloved car for one of the ones on the list - well probably but just for the Ferrari I think.

  1. I wonder why they wouldn't make most vehicles with comfortable backseats....after all the majority of people use the backseat at one time or another. Maybe it's more cost effecient for the corporations not to and then those that put comfort in the backseat can brag about such things. All the vehicles I've ever owned have probably never had a comfortable backseat and I too owned a Mustang (actually two a 1965 and a 2002, but not both at the same time) and rarely did I ever get a compliment about the comfort of the backseat.

  2. I drive a Honda Element and the backseat is awesome. It's probably nicer than the front seat. It's not that odd for people to call the backseat instead of shotgun. Still laughing at the article's title...that's hilarious!
